Things to Do Before I’m Dead

checkedboxForm a band to write and play music. The first 4 years of Agrippa93 were just myself and any ambitions I had to performing music live were pretty far from reality. Having other band members writing music as well is a little bit of a compromise on my part, but having others contribute to the creative process has lead to a very productive outcome. I’ve gotten more music written and recorded in a span of 6 months than I ever would have by myself. I’d say this has been accomplished and can be checked off on my list.

checkedboxRecord, produce, and distribute a full length album. Well, our debut album Beneath the Cypress Tree is finished and now available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby.com. This has been a dream of mine since I was about 15 or so, and finally I can check this box as done. Now we’re working on our second one.

uncheckedboxPlay at a local major venue. Through a Battle of the bands competition we were given the opportunity to be the headlining band at the Webster Underground in Hartford, CT, which is one of the most sought out venues to play for any local band.

checkedboxGet air play on a mainstream radio station. Starting on Sunday September 20th WCCC featured Agrippa93 on their Homegrown show. The following 4 days they aired City of Pyramids, Evocation, and Face of Fear from our album Beneath the Cypress Tree including an interview with me. Now that we are a part of that show we will also be aired by WCCC on future shows focusing on local bands.

uncheckedboxBuild, own, and operate a recording studio. Obviously this is going to cost some money to pull off. The most reasonable and affordable way to make this happen is to convert my home studio into a more industry standard operating recording environment with soundproofing and isolation. A modest flow of clientele would help pay for the construction, supplement my income, and help pave the way to make it a full time career. I don’t see this getting checked off anytime in the near future.

uncheckedboxAttend a Liverpool game at Stanley Park. I know, Liverpool plays at Anfield, but the time I finally get around to it, their home field will be at Stanley Park. This is going to require a hop across the lake and some accurate planning on my part. There will be nothing more exhilarating than standing in the Kop screaming and singing my lungs out to You’ll Never Walk Alone.

uncheckedboxWitnessing the New England Revolution win the MLS Cup. Now in their 15th season, the Revs have yet to win the Big One. The one that really counts. Winning the Open Cup in 2007 (their 1st piece of silverware) and then the Superliga in 2008 was great accomplishment, however making it to the MLS finals 4 times and walking away empty handed just wont do anymore. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to have to go through that every time. I’d rather they not even make it to the finals than lose it again. Please Revs. Let me check this one off.

uncheckedboxTour Egypt. Being a white male US citizen, it’s probably not the smartest idea for me to visit a country that likes to kidnap and kill American infidels, but eventually I do want to tour the ancient Egyptian sites along the Nile River. I have a particular attraction to Luxor (modern day Thebes) and the temple of Karnak. I’d also love to get inside the Cairo Museum and check out all the artifacts, including one particular famous Stele. Maybe when the kids are older and I’m retired I’ll make the trip or I’ll see if we can book a gig in Cairo or something.

checkedboxSee Pink Floyd live. This never happened and will not happen seeing that the band are all but officially disbanded. Richard Wright is dead, and David Gilmour stated that he is done with Pink Floyd. A few years back I did see Roger Waters live for his In the Flesh tour, which featured almost all Pink Floyd songs. I’m counting that.

uncheckedboxVisit Apple’s headquaters. As a huge fan of Apple computers, one of my goals is to visit the Apple mecca itself: 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California. I have no desire whatsoever to visit the west coast other than for that trip alone. Call it a geek fest or whatever, but it’s on the list and I’m doing it.
