Fade Into Oblivion is available for purchase at iTunes.

(Music written by Cabrero, Agrippa, and Dugan)

Fade into Oblivion was birthed from 13 minute long recording of a guitar improvisation from A93’s 2008 guitarist, Carlos Cabrero. The finished piece was the result of long editing and arranging sessions in the studio and the addition of many layers of instrumentation to flesh out the rest of the song. Fade Into Oblivion is the 11th and final track on Agrippa93’s album, Beneath the Cypress Tree.

Lyrics: The lyrics to Fade Into Oblivion were written in late October to early November of 2008, starting with the chorus line, “Let me fade into oblivion”, which came about while working out the vocal melodies for the song. The theme developed into a reincarnation concept: The protagonist is trapped in a constant cycle of fully conscious return, vividly remembering all his countless past lives. He is longing to end this nightmarish cycle and fade into oblivion forever.

Lyrics written by Agrippa in 2008.

From beneath the Cypress tree
It’s shade devours me again
I’ve seen a million sunsets
I’ve died a 100,000 ways

Countless, the rebirths
sands fall through the hourglass
each time I die Its one less grain

Let me fade into oblivion
Don’t watch me die another day again
Let me fade into oblivion
Let me fade into oblivion

Another funeral for me
Remembered all my lives before
Reflection in still waters
black as the void I’m longing for

Countless, the rebirths
sands fall through the hourglass
each time I die Its one less grain

Let me fade into oblivion
Don’t watch me die another day again
Let me fade into oblivion

In Studio: The unusual tone used for the rhythm guitars is the result of an octave shifting effect that was also used in a guitar lead for the A93 song City of Pyramids on the same album, Beneath the Cypress Tree. Along with the rhythm guitars others including guitar leads and 2 acoustic tracks were recorded as additional layers. Digital instruments used include synthesizer pads, simulated Steinway piano, programmed bass, and programmed drums. Lyrics were delivered by a lead vocal track accompanied by 2 back ups and a growl track to add emphasis to the chorus’s.

Agrippa – Lead and back up vocals, piano, synth pads, bass and drum programming.

Myk Dugan – Lead guitar and growls.

Carlos Cabrero – Rhythm and acoustic guitars.

Live Performance: When performed live Fade Into Oblivion differs from the original recording in a few ways. The most obvious difference is that an electric bass and an acoustic drum kit is used in place of the programmed equivalents found in the album recording. Instead of an acoustic guitar for both the intro and outro sections of the song, a clean electric guitar tone is used. Fade Into Oblivion was one of the band’s favorites to play live, however it may or may not be included in future set lists. It has been considered for retooling to be presented as an acoustical arrangement for small open mic type venues.
