(Music written by Agrippa, Dugan, and Cabrero)
Face of Fear is essentially a complete re-imaging of the Agrippa93 song Fear 1st written and recorded by Agrippa in 2004. It was the 3rd A93 song ever written and has gone through a complete transformation from its original sound. Face of Fear is the 8th track from Agrippa93’s album, Beneath the Cypress Tree.
Lyrics: Face of Fear was inspired by a friend of Agrippa’s who was stagnant in life due to her own fears. Once confronted them, she was able to live the life she wanted to. Face of Fear touches on the every day fears that prevent us from success in life. We each deal with these in our own way, whether we face them dead on or let them control us. Fear is the enemy. It’s only in your mind.
Lyrics written by Agrippa in 2004.
I know there’s times you feel afraid.
Feed fears and they will escalate.
But now you face them all alone
I’ve seen the face that you have shown.
Crippled by possibility
Of things you cannot touch our see.
I’ve seen the mask of reasoning
Crumble like ashes in the face of fear
Face your demons and tear down the walls
Conquer your fears and your dreams appear.
Conquer your fears and your dreams appear.
I have some issues of my own
Of things that chilled me to the bone.
But when I beat them day to day
It seems a minor price to pay.
Denied by possibility
From things I cannot touch our see.
I’ve heard the voice of reasoning
Crumble my fears like ashes in the breeze
Faced my demons and shattered my prison walls
Confronted my fears and my dreams are free.
Confronted my fears and my dreams are free.
Fear’s the enemy
Fear’s the enemy
Fear’s the enemy
It’s only in your mind
I’ve seen the new horizon
Chasing the fear from my conscious mind.
Inspired by possibility
Of looking beyond and what I’ll find.
Inspired by possibility
Of looking beyond and what I’ll find.
Realize the possibility
Realize the possibility
Realize the possibility
Realize the possibility
Of being all you wish to be.
In Studio: Face of Fear was produced and engineered by Agrippa.
Agrippa – Vocals, synths, sequencer, bass programming, and drum programming.
Myk Dugan – Lead and rhythm guitars
Carlos Cabrero – Lead and rhythm guitars
“I really liked the concept and mood of the original song and I didn’t want to lose it in ‘the pit of old song obscurity’. While we putting stuff together for the album, I brought this one out to Carlos and Myk stripped down of everything but the newly recorded vocals, a more aggressive bass line, and foundation drums. I didn’t want them to hear the 1st version, because I didn’t want that to influence their direction with it. It turned out to be one of our more driven songs which was a huge departure from its original subdued form.” – Agrippa
Live Performance: Face of Fear was performed live with the 2009 lineup in the shows promoting the release of Agrippa93’s Beneath the Cypress Tree album. It has been considered to be added to set lists for future shows.
“This was probably one of the hardest songs to pull off live and we struggled with it throughout rehearsal up until a couple of weeks before the shows. I had to abandon all samples and synths, because they just could not be performed live. We ended up cutting some parts out and eventually it ended up sounding like more of a different version than the album recording.” – Agrippa
